I"m not wanting to enter into the CFUnited discussion directly, but in general, we would do well to remember that no matter how many of these conferences that MM assist, there will be another hundred or more opportunities to assist as well that they just can't help. Macromedia is our favourite software company, but they're not Microsoft. They dont have regiments of people able to spend their weeks living out of a suitcase trooping from one conference and show to the next..
I'm not suggesting that MM needn't attend the user group conferences, because their contributions are extremely valuable for us developers. But I honestly think the place that MM ought to put their most significant effort should be where the CF faithful AREN'T. The hardest part of the sales process is getting new customers and they're not to be found at CF user group conferences, but at PHP conferences and .ASP conferences and Unix gatherings and Java gatherings and Trade shows and the like. Macromedia can never ignore their existing customer base - us - but to some extent it's "preaching to the choir". The place to do the most selling work is amongst the 'unbelievers' and the 'unsaved'. As it happens, Macromedia do quite a lot of work amongst these groups, but because we're already in the ColdFusion family, we dont see that.
