Here you go. Never can tell when archive.org will come in handy.
You are getting one of the following error trying to post a message right
after installing Forums or when posting or deleting a message:
Error:
Error occurred in tag CFINDEX
Collection failed to open: Forums_CFForums_Messages
The error occurred while processing an element with a general identifier
of (CFINDEX), occupying document position (9:2) to (17:2).
CFINDEX Tag internal error key insert type = field VDK Collection submit
failed. -23
Before proceeding you should check for the existence of a file called
MessageBatchIndexing.cfm. This file was included in later versions of
Allaire Forums and is required to complete the steps in this article. The
template should be at this location -
webroot/Forums/Verity/MessageBatchIndexing.cfm. If this file does not exist,
please upgrade to Forums 2.05 before proceeding any further.

Deleting the Verity Collections
Go into ColdFusion Administrator, click the Verity link (note the path to
the directories for each on your hard drive in parenthesis), and delete
these two collections:
* Forums_CFForums_Messages
* Forums_CFForums_Subjects
Then, go into the file system and delete the directories that correspond to
the two Verity collections you just deleted.
Recreating the Verity Collections
After deleting the directories, recreate the Verity collections by doing the
following:
1. In ColdFusion Administrator, click the Verity link and go to the
section called Add A Collection.
2. Type Forums_CFForums_Messages in the Name field
3. Put the path you recorded above (minus the directory name) in the Path
field.
4. Click the radio button next to "Create a new collection" and click the
Apply button.
5. Repeat this process, except the second time, type
Forums_CFForums_Subjects in the Name field.
Reindexing the Verity Collections
When you recreate your Verity collections, you also need to reindex the data
in those collections. A template (MessageBatchIndexing.cfm) for doing this
is included in Allaire Forums. To reindex the data, run the following URL:
http://server_name/Forums/Verity/MessageBatchIndexing.cfm?cfapp=x&Days=y
where x is any conference ID and y is number of days from which the messages
should be indexed. If some messages within this time range have already been
indexed (as it is in your case) they will be just re-indexed so that
collection will not contain any duplicates.
Hope this helps.

Way Off Subject:
Rey, I've got a problem that you helped solve for a guy installing Allaire
Forums back in 2000. Sorry to be posting this here, but this is the only
way I could get you.
The guy you helped posted:
I have just installed Allaire Forums 2.06 (CF4.01), and although it
installed fine, and everything seems to work OK - admin etc.. - if I try to
post a message I get the following:
Error occurred in tag CFINDEX
Collection failed to open: Forums_CFForums_Messages
I haven't been able to fix this yet - any ideas anyone please.
Rey, you helped by posting:
The error your getting is because of a messed up Verity collection that gets
created during the install of Forums 2.06. Its actually an error that's been
around for sometime and hasn't been corrected by Allaire.
The Allaire knowledgebase article that discusses how to fix this can be
found at: http://www.allaire.com/Handlers/index.cfm?ID=1560&Method=Full
Rey, the Allaire KB is no more. Do you happen to have this KB article - or
could you set me in the right direction to get it. My e-mail address is:
