The downside of a fee is that then folks not familiar with HOF, and there are quite a few, may never gain that understanding of the value.

I agree. I would support a small fee for membership. Of course I love free, but I am willing to pay a reasonable fee for that which I feel is worth it. HOF is definitely worth it. I would be very comfortable with a fee between $5 and $10 a month. If you had the option of paying that annually by invoice or something, I suspect I might even get my company to foot the bill for the help I receive on the work I do here.
