I have tried email confirmations in the past for this website. Unfortunately, a very large number of the users are complete Internet & PC newbies. Having them get their email address correct is a difficult thing to ask. While I'd rather their email were correct, it doesn't have to be so in order for them to do business with us.
There probably are some scripts that are wise to this. Perhaps some developers on the list have already overcome any issues related to this...
