days???

Hi Andy,

Well, obviously everyone's different, but I've been using CF since 1999
(versions 3, 4.0, 4.5, 5, MX 6 & 7). For this past 7.0 exam, I studied 2
full weeks (perhaps 2 - 3 hours per day) before taking the exam. I'm also
the author of CFMX Exam Buster, so that makes me a bit more intimate with
the question types and that sort of thing. I used my own 6.0 version of the
product and studied up on the new 7.0 material quite a bit. I passed with
the advanced status on the MX 7 test.

[I know Andy's a customer so that why I'm suggesting the below, it would be
the same advice I give to all my customers]
I would say when you are consistently scoring in the 90's on any test and
not simply by memorization (of answer A or B, etc...), but actually knowing
the concepts of the questions/answers, reading the explanations, refering
the references URLs (if necessary), and most importantly trying out code
snippets. I also recommend taking the time to do all 13 tests straight thru
and no cheating, just to see how you do. Study your weak areas, do the
tests again and see how you progress. Then take the topic test (sure it's
the same questions, but in a different mindset), and see how you do. Then
take some random tests, to build your confidence (or identify if you're not
ready).

Besides the CF knowledge that CFMX Exam Buster tries to bestow on my
customers, it also prepares the customer for taking a test. I don't know
about you, but it's been awhile since I've been in a classroom taking tests
(I always hated them!). So budgeting your time, not freaking out and
relaxing a bit is something that CFMX Exam Buster is meant to impart upon my
customers as well. I actually had one customer email me just the other day
and tell me that even though he's never taken the actual MM cert exam, he
loves CFMX Exam Buster because it's taught him so much about the CF product
that he was never aware of and it's increased his CF knowledge 10-fold.

The testimonials webpage on my site
(http://centrasoft.com/cfbtestimonials.cfm) is 100% real.

> Also has anyone used CF exam buster to study (it was there spam this
> morning which prompted a look around)

Andy, I have to take issue with this statement. As someone who knows what
SPAM is (I receive over 400 per day), I feel I have to defend myself here
against this public accusation. I sent an email announcement to CF-TALK, as
I have done in the past, and Michael Dinowitz has never had a problem with
in the past (I specifically asked his permission the first time). I also
sent an email to several CF blog owners (one of which was you). I hand
selected the blog owners, wrote the emails and sent from my email account.
The blogs are CF related and CFMX Exam Buster is definitely CF-related, so I
figured it would be right on topic with those blogs that I picked out. If I
offended you with my email, then I apologize, but I certainly don't think it
can be defined as spam. Now if I asked you if you wanted to refinance your
home, wanted a bigger johnson, or were looking for cheap software, then that
might be different :)

Something else that I wanted to touch upon was Ben Forta's CF study guide.
I often get emails asking me which to buy (mine or his), or they seem to
have a slant on them as though me & Ben are enemies and it's gotta be one or
the other. I just wanted to publicly state that nothing could be further
from the truth. I've met Ben a couple times at CF conferences (he may or
may not remember, but I was on that bus in Washington DC in 2000 that could
barely negotiate a particular street corner), find him to be a fascinating
intelligent man, and actually own his study guides (not the 7.0 one yet).
Both products are reasonably priced, so why not arm yourself with both? I
think CFMX Exam Buster is more geared towards taking/passing the actual
exam, because it is a software product, where as Ben's is a book (duh).
Ben's book has some extra info like LDAP, CFMAIL, Verity which are not fair
game on the real exam by Macromedia's own admission, but it makes an
excellent handy reference even after taking the exam.

Well that turned into a bit more than I was expecting, but I think I needed
to publicly state it,
Thanks,
Brian
