Well I use the rule. Don't get coldfusion to do the work of the database, when the database can obviously do it a lot better.

There may be cases where you MUST use them - as in, you have no other options. Triggers have an unnecessary overhead on the server - If you are performing selects in them then you should use a trigger. For example. I have a trigger that detects when a client account is deactivated, and then automatically deactivates all other records in related tables as well. No different than using the cascade update and delete triggers that are there by default.
