Crystal Tech allows remote access to db servers and I wouldn't host with anyone who doesn't. I'm not security expert but it is definitely a deal breaker for us. Even our servers allow for remote access to the db's. Maybe we're all wrong but it'll stay that way I guess until someone teaches us otherwise, and Crystal Tech for that matter.
