Where did you see that?  This is in the config.cfm:


        config.serverPath = "";
        // use this to force the server path if FCKeditor is not running
directly off the root of the application or the FCKeditor directory in
the URL is a virtual directory or a symbolic link / junction


It was this setting I couldn't mess with and get anywhere positive.
You're saying the docs -- somewhere -- say root folder only?

Dang if thats the case this editor went WAY downhill (considering the
base href doesn't work either) in v2.x
