Eric, I hate to say it, but I think I would even consider paying the extra $400 knowing that a reputable company such as Adobe is standing behind ColdFusion MX 7. I don't like the fact that Adobe is moving my Macromedia MVLP license to an AOO (Adobe Open Options) license, so I am investigating alternatives. So far, BlueDragon looks like a good alternative, but not worth the current price. I'm still looking into it...
