Have you downloaded the update in a separate file or are you using
Windows Update?

If the latter, whenever I've had a patch that wouldn't install, I
visited the KB article and a downloaded the particular patch file.
Running it manually has always done the trick.

Another option might be to boot up into "Safe Mode" and try installing
it then.

Okay, so that's a way to fix it.  A little additional research tells
that that, in fact, the update the keeps failing for me is the one that
has this little gem.  Now, any idea how I can get the patch to install?
Has anyone found an update that they are "unable to install"?
