Yes.

JavaScript, as I mentioned in a separate email, is not an alternative - it
won't allow you to do this either. ActiveX, on the other hand, can do
anything at all. There is no "built-in" security with ActiveX other than
trust - before installing an ActiveX control, you are asked whether you
trust that control. Once it's installed, it can do anything that any program
could possibly do.
