They were using it as responses to it could run anywhere and they were
supporting it not going against it, they just said it didnt run well.

If i "had" to use .net then of course I'd take any other product that offered
it over m$, I seriously hate them and their crappy products. I'd go to blue
dragon first then concider the options.

As far as vmware goes I only need 1 and thats paralles just to run a crappy
browser called "ie" to see how bad it jacks up my perfectly good code!

I'm not into the whole enterprise thing, y'all can do that and work for someone
else, i'm perfectly happy staying small and making all the money and not giving
most of what I make to some guy out playing golf while i work ;)

Dave,

Obviously, asking any M$ oriented guy about a viable alternative to .NET is
going to generate a negative response. The reality of mono it has grown up.

Google is getting on board with mono..

Check out some facts here:
http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/library/l-mono/

Some of the things I appreciate about mono are:

1. runs on a better, thinner OS that is light years ahead of M$ bloat ware
2. open source (much faster product evolution and completely customizable in
the event you want changes)
3. responsibly versions itself which offers an insurance policy against the
typical Microsoft behavior of deprecating entire languages in the name of
OSes upgrades.

If you haven't heard / don't know about VMWare, you should check it out.
Installing OSes directly on hardware is a thing of the 90s.

Check out the ESX platform:
