We use the agencies for some other, larger email newsletters, but this one was small enough we thought that we'd like to tackle it ourselves. Mainly what I'm looking for is what elements are not going to show up right in all browsers, or cause the email to more likely be stopped by a spam filter...things I have figured out so far: 1. Don't include a form on the page...the client initially wanted this to look just like their web page, which includes a search box in the template...that would cause my email client to consider the email to be a "scam". 2. Don't use external references to style sheets, as they may look right upon receipt, but will not carry over if the message is forwarded (at least when someone is using Outlook with Word as their editor). It may be that many of the agencies have tested every email client with every known element, and have a playbook they go by when creating an email (although in my experience with the agencies, I'm sure that is not true of all of them). I'm just wondering if any of that "best practices" information is out there in a public format. And all this assumes that 1. HTML emails will be sent 2. The user will have an option for text-only, but this is the best practices for the "HTML emails that will be sent". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Introducing the Fusion Authority Quarterly Update. 80 pages of hard-hitting, up-to-date ColdFusion information by your peers, delivered to your door four times a year. http://www.fusionauthority.com/quarterly Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Talk/message.cfm/messageid:250844 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.4
