You seem to be viewing Brainbench certs unfavorably because you can look up answers in the manual as you take the test. The Brainbench tests are intended to be open-book and the Adobe test is intended to be closed-book. So the questions you see on a Brainbench test are much harder than the questions on the Adobe test. Many of the questions cannot be answered without looking up the answer. That is what you are being tested on. Can you look up the correct answer or solve the problem within two minutes. It is not testing how well you can memorize a study guide.
I would place a higher value on a vendor cert, but I would look favorably on a Brainbench cert as well.
