Very true...a RAID array would be a good way to go, but I'd have to setup another computer for that. (Or are there external drives that work in RAID arrays with the rest of the computer?)

Actually, there are good reasons to use ISO images instead of actual CDs, and there are plenty of ways to store them safely and inexpensively. I convert CDs and DVDs to ISO images as a matter of course, and store them on a RAID array. This can be a lot cheaper than the alternatives.
