I would expect an open source version of CF to implement a strong subset
of the CF that most developers use on a daily basis and to implement it
with excellent performance. I suspect that open sourcing the core of CF
would make it so that you had a stable, lower footprint server that
would run most of the lower-end sites out there. More importantly, I
would expect it to support whatever it is that the bulk of the
developers were clamoring for. I suspect that if it had existed 2 years
ago, we'd see built in support for image processing for instance.

There are a bunch of really cool, high end features available in CF. I
don't think that all of them would have to be implemented for an open
source version of CF to be successful. I'll be following this project
with great interest and perhaps helping out where I can. I think it
could do the CF community a lot of good.
