Head on over to:
http://symbol.com/products/mobile_computers/mobile_computers.html

We created an Asset Cycle Count system using Symbol scanners. The scanner app
is programmed in .Net and replicates to SQL2000 during the sync process. I then
have a CF app to manage the entire process and provide reporting using the same
data.

There are so many products that you can choose from. It really comes down to
what your exact needs and budget are. We could not use a networked scanner due
to the remote nature of some of the assets and elected to perform a sync each
night.
You can choose from Win CE or Palm based scanners.
I suppose you could use a wireless device with a browser and connect to a CF
web site, but I think you would get more functionality using either Palm or Win
CE(or whatever the latest flavor is) for the application.
