Having not looked into SQL Server 2000, does anyone know if they've added
this kind of functionality yet?
If not, that's a major oversight in my opinion. Even though there are
efficient ways to handle parent/child relationships, the ID/ParentID is used
a ton. The CONNECT BY PRIOR is definite a sweet feature of Oracle and I was
hoping MS would do something to add similar functionality to SQL Server
2000...

Probably not helpful, but if you happen to be using Oracle,
you can retrieve hierarchical data using the rather bizarre
CONNECT BY PRIOR construct.
