Sticky sessions don't provide session failover. If you're using a server, and the server goes down, your session will be lost - and depending on your load balancer configuration you might even be sent back to that server! That said, it's sufficient for most uses, simpler to set up and manage than session replication, and will generally provide better performance as long as the servers don't fail.
