Several of our customers use Akamai. I don't really know anything about the pricing structure. Their service is good, in that you get what you pay for. You have to figure out what will be cached, and how aggressively. Your users will definitely notice a speed increase, if done properly. Not all sites benefit from this kind of caching; it depends on the ratio of information content vs application functionality, in my opinion. The clients of ours who are using it are CMS clients, with lots of information content.
