Heh you said MS Bob Good points all around but to say the least... to have a 'successful happy day of upgrading to vista' from whatever... you have to follow the rules of compatible software and hardware.
Now compare the lists of supported software and hardware from older versions to that of Vistas and you will see why tons of people aren't very happy with Vista. Most of their issues don't stem from Vista but other popular games and software (and hardware) that just won't work with it. But still... very, very good points... better than most will make when arguing about Vista and 'Microshaft' as it has already been put. ....and yes, time (and 1000s of patches) will change many minds about Vista but I think it will take more of both than it ever has before with any Windows realease. ..:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:. Evidence? For every person on this list that claims "everybody they know hates it" there's one that says "everybody they know loves it" - and as evidence neither group is useful. So since we're all working on anecdotal evidence I've decided to work on the anecdotal evidence that I prefer. ;^) But seriously, I do have reasonable logic to do so: Over 20 million retail copies were sold in the first two months of release. With OEM sales and several more months the total number of Vista licenses out in the wild is closer to 60 or 70 million. If "most" (let's say 30 million) people were truly unhappy with it don't you think that there would be some concrete evidence? Perhaps some large scale of class action suits or boycotts or the like? Look at the results created by much smaller groups with consumer issues like the iPod's non-replaceable battery or the XBox 360's "Ring of Death"? I'm also very wary about labeling Vista problem for most of the complaints I've heard. In nearly all cases the problems stem from attempt to use non-Vista Certified hardware or software on Vista. The logic "that MS told me it wouldn't work but when I installed it wouldn't work!" doesn't really make be think poorly of Vista. ;^) I don't see anything in the Vista release that wasn't mirrored in the XP release... or the Windows 95 release.... or the Windows 3.1 release. For that matter in the Mac OS 8 or 9 or X releases either. An OS change is a stressful time - but any successful OS satisfies most of its users despite the loud cries of some. By all concrete measures Vista is a successful OS release (look at Windows ME, MS Bob or BeOS as examples of unsuccessful releases).
