I'm quite familiar with how anonymous FTP servers get abused. But, as long
as your FTP server root directory is separate from other stuff (which it is
by default), and you don't actually run any of the stuff that was uploaded,
reformatting the disk is unnecessary. Your FTP server wasn't hacked, it was
used by someone running an FTP client. The fact that they made it hard to
delete directories is a wacky problem of the Windows shell, that's all.
