Not sure if anyone else experienced this, I have a theory but will share the story first.
1. Ordered ColdFusion 8 when it was released. 2. For some reason my orders are never accepted by Adobe and always get sent for approval 3. The following day I get my approval emails (this is normal for me) one with Download one with serials 4. The serial number one was interesting, serial number: Contact Customer Service 5. Found customer service on the web, filled in an enquiry saying what happened to the serial number 6. Had a response from customer service, saying sorry we would like to help you but we can't as your serial number wasn't generated and we cannot generate serial numbers. Please contact customer service 7. What? You are customer service, I figured there was probably some difference between web customer service and phone customer service (not sure why). I tried to call customer service, but it was outside service hours, so I figured I'd try tomorrow. 8. Overnight I got the serial number email again this time with the serial number, strange. So my theory is that they forgot to setup the bit that generates the serial number when they launched.
