This is why I love this list! There's always more than one way to skin a
cat!

Your suggestion just hadn't occurred to me at all and given the restrictions
of the naming of cfthread it would work perfectly for what I need and be as
quick as naming from a loop index value.

The faster UUID generator I posted is pretty stunning though, I've been
doing some benchmarking on it and it is only 20ms slower than using a simple
variable for naming 500 threads. It has one quirk in that the format of the
UUID is different to that of CF. 36 chars as opposed to 35 with CF. There is
an extra - making 3 4 digit sections in the middle of the UUID rather than
the 2 of CF. I have also got to figure out if it does anything screwy like
the CreateUUID used to under load... I say used to but I don't know if this
was this ever fixed. Does CreateUUID still speed up the system clock on x86
platforms under CF8?

Thinking about it, I think I'll just go for the counter! It's a less complex
solution that does the job I need and KISS is always a good plan!
