you didn't. but you seemed to be under the impression that i was under the impression that... oh, nevermind :) > > is it really lynda.com's responsibility to cover that? none of that > > is really coldfusion specific. it's hosting provider specific. i'd > > be pretty upset myself if i paid for coldfusion content and got a > > bunch of content about how i -might- set up a DSN -if- my hosting > > company uses such and such a method... > > I'd be pretty upset if I paid for training and the training service only > mildly glossed over a pretty crucial subject which involved so many > variables. i.e. if the "training" only told me what I could easily get > from the installing / administering ColdFusion book on livedocs. i've taken the Macromedia CF course (the advanced one). they didn't go over setting up a DSN on a shared host. I've paid for books (not 'training' per se, but along the same lines). they didn't go over setting up a DSN on a shared host. if i download a custom tag from the developer's exchange... should i expect a training course to cover that custom tag? i guess we just have different expectations here. i think that a general training course should... well, yes. cover the material thats in the livedocs, but probably do a greater depth. but when it comes to something that's 3rd party (be it a custom component/tag, a hosting provider...) then i think that when you have questions on those topics, you go to the source. I do certainly think that the hosting company has an obligation to its customers to post a clear and easy-to-follow FAQ on setting up a DSN while using their service. And maybe lynda.com (or whichever method of training is in question) should say, "if you're on a shared host, contact your hosting provider for details". But I do not think that a training company is at all responsible for covering how to do something like that step-by-step. -- "Scientists tell us that the fastest animal on earth, with a top speed of 120 feet per second, is a cow that has been dropped out of a helicopter." - Dave Barry ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;160198600;22374440;w Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Talk/message.cfm/messageid:296493 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4
