I am unaware of the specifics for other platforms, but it is specifically
specified in the MS SQL Server License info that you may not get a low Cal
license and use a multiplexor. On a project I am working on, we have
bugeted about $23K for SQL 7 licensing (4 processors, internet connectors,
SQL ent). We weren't watching the SQL7/2000 "upgrade path" very closely,
and by the time we were ready to buy, the same setup in SQL 2000 was about
$90K.
Talk about a rip-off! By that time we had already written the App to be so
MS SQL Server specific (stored procs and such) that there was no turning
back. For that kind of money, I think we are going to be looking elsewhere
for a DB platform next time.
