Just my 2 cents, but I can see how the cffeed was a perceived need and
created for it. XML / RSS is pretty much a stable technology. However the
nature of the web services, especially some of the ones that were given as
examples on the question, are always being updated. A good example would be
the google APIs, they are constantly changing their api to the point that
after a few versions, the one version you were working with may not be
available anymore.

I can understand when an application built on a middle-tier language becomes
outdated and needing upgrades, but what happens when the cfgoogle tag no
longer works because of a versioning change by google? I think that the bad
press that would be caused, and the issues raised with the developers who
support ColdFusion by their clients would be too great.

Imagine in you will...

Client on the phone:
        We are having issues with the system that you built us 9 months ago,
it has stopped working properly. All of our reports are showing errors.

Contractor:
        I have some phone messages that I left with your secretary, I have
been trying to get in touch with you. Google has now released their newest
version and the version that your system was built is no longer supported.

Client:
        Why did this happen? How did this happen? Can you fix it? I need
this working right away.

Contractor:
        The reason why I was calling you was to schedule some time to
upgrade your system so that we could avoid down time for you. I have some
time later this week, can you get a PO to approve the hours today, and I can
start to get working on it?

Client:
        How many hours do you think this will take?

<cfif cfgoogle>
Contractor:
        Well, since this system was originally built on the google tag in
ColdFusion and that tag no longer works with current versions of google, we
will need to rebuild everything from scratch. I will need XXX hours to get
everything running again.
Client:
        [EMAIL PROTECTED]@[EMAIL PROTECTED]@^*&())[EMAIL PROTECTED]@
<cfelse>
Contractor:
        I've already scoped out what would need to be changed, so the hours
should be minimal, if you make the PO out for XX hours, that should cover
everything.
Client:
        I will have financial fax over a PO this afternoon.
</cfif>

Just my 2pence

Right, think cffeed... You don't have to use cffeed to use feeds --
after all, they're already xml. You could just build or parse the xml.
So what they're asking is if you think it would be an advantage to have
something like a cfamazon tag, perhaps also similar to cfexchange since
that's integration for a proprietary Microsoft technology. This would
simply be integration for a proprietary webservice owned by google,
amazon, etc. It's not high on my personal list of things I'd like to see
in CF9 (which isn't very long), but I could see where other folks might
be interested in having it.
