Besides the glowing reports seen here, I can recomment

on the primary embedded language in the AOLServer.

I heard a presentation last February by the head of the team doing work
on AOLServer.  This is the software that AOL uses for all of their online
forums, services, etc.  Quite impressive performance numbers.  And the fact
that the software and language are all free and open source is quite
attractive.
