No, it would not be, unless you could provide strong supporting evidence that the signature was actually done by the person in question at the time in question. The signature has to be "witnessed". > The key to this is that for the signature to be as accurate > as possible the person signing would need to be using a > stylus, otherwise it would be quite different than their > signature with a pen. > > Also, the amount of samplings taken would have to be quite > high to show an extremely close representation of what the > signature was intended to look like. > > All in all, we stay away from doing this kind of thing > because of the amount of deniability that's available to the > person signing. When this question was originally posted, I suggested using a PDF to capture the signature, because PDFs can capture digital signatures. A digital signature isn't an actual signature with a stylus on a screen, but rather a mathematically verifiable digital certificate that can be applied to a document: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_signature "Signature" fields in PDF accept digital signatures, not literal signatures. You can, however, use a visual display of your signature as the "logo" for your digital signature. I've done that for my own digital signature, which I use with PDFs quite often. Digital signatures have been accepted as legally binding.
