3D secure is a new system in the UK for added security on credit card
processing through gateways.

As of pre-September (aprox.) last year, all of the UK banks were making 3D
secure mandatory, which came into effect on 1st August, 2007.

Then, after all of the gateway suppliers changed their systems to
accomodate, the banks did a complete u-turn and made it optional only.

All in all, a complete waste of time.

It was sold as a way of protecting the merchant, but all it really was was a
protection for the banks.
