UTF-8, like Dale said

make sure your DB is UTF-8
It happened that your DB may be default UTF-8 but due to some scripts it may 
actually have Latin-1 tables (we experienced that some time ago). So take care 
of that.

Check date/time format: it's typically yyyy/mm/dd in Japan.

Check address format:
Name
Street Address, Town(Address1),
City, Prefecture(Address2), Postal Code
JAPAN

Other than that it's really easy.
