Wim, I played around with this same problem one way and another for
ages. If I understand it correctly, the problem stems from the fact
that IIS as it is in XPPro only allows one site per machine, and if
you want multiple sites, you either have to do somthing smart with
Application.cfc or keep reconfiguring IIS wen you switch form site to
site.
I tried that for a while but it was a real pain. Some days if i am
doing a lot of bug fixes or small maintenance jobs, i can work on 5 or
6 different sites a day.
Finally, I bit the bullet and installed apache, as several peopel,
much smarter than me had been suggesting for some time. I'd avoided
it because it was yet another app to learn and i really didnt want to.
But finally i figured it was worth a go and i havent looked back.
I now have 37 sites configured on my XPPro lap top, which is my main
development machine. In addition i have CF7 AND CF8 installed and
running, and my sites know which version of coldfusion they run under.
So the proper feature sets are associated with each site. All i
have to do is click on tne link in my favourites (or bookmarks if i
have Fireworks up) and the client site opens.
I STRONGLY suggest you do the same. It solves all that problem of
switching from one to the other Your sites are exactly as they are
in your shared hosting - the relative and absolute links work exactly
the same, so do client and session vars, frameworks like coldspring
and model-glue do too, and there is no need for mappings.
Believe me, its worth it.
