Update:  I realized I was missing this line of JavaScript:

UserFacade = new UserFacade();

That (sort of) explains the original error, but now that I fixed that, my 
original suspicions are confirmed. The Ajax call is looking in my root 
directory for the CFC and a getting a 404 error.
