Fine tuning the JVM really does fix a lot of issues. We used to get crashes a lot back in the day when I didn't know much about JVM tweaking, especially the heap size stuff. Ever since I updated the JVM and tuned it we rarely ever have a crash anymore.
We used to run into the same exact thing by the way.
