deleted a bunch of stuff from the registry after uninstalling cf and rebooted.. then rebooted again, deleted a bit more stuff and rebooted again.
So the .net stuff now no longer appears in the "Uninstall programs" dialog - good. I ran the CF801x64 installer again (as administrator) and once again... no sign of the C:\Coldfusion8DotNetService directory. So...
