The following info may be completely useless but since I'm messing
with win 2k8 and CF9 myself currently here's my take.
My server will fulfil multiple roles and I've therefore opted for a
quite attractively priced Sun Fire X2200 M2 with 2xquad AMDs and 8GB
of RAM. I'm going to put win2k8 on it but will turn the initial
install into a parent partition and give that OS a Hyper-V role only.
This will require minimal resources. The rest of the server can then
be conveniently filled with a few more Win2k8 VMs (but you can't use
the web edition for these tasks, need to go one edition up at least).
I guess my point is that you take a look at virtualisation for your
setup as sounds like a good fit for a single, middle-weight machine.
Plus if you have resources left over you can add another VM in order
to utilise the hardware fully.

If your company can be considered a startup then take a look at
Microsoft's Bizspark program as through that you can get all the
Windows licenses for free. Yep, free. And it includes pretty much all
of Microsoft's software offering, not just OSs, so you can get SQL
licenses too. I bought my Sun boxes through Sun's own startup program
at reduced cost. I cut down the price for the hardware further by
purchasing the hard disks elsewhere. But then maybe you are not as
skint as I am :-)

Cheers

Stefan
