Yeah, I'm confused on the overcharging as well, and frankly, I'm _darn_ cheap (ask my friends, I agonize over a 99 cent iphone app purchase). 300 bucks for a program I literally use 9 hours or more per day 6 days a week per year is something like 1 cent per hour. I pay more for my Mac as well. All in all it helps me make more money _and_ it makes me happy as a developer.
