Yes, I have deleted the sub-directory (in this case, 8) in wsconfig. I have shut down the site. I have shut down IIS. There is no change whatsoever in the behavior. Each time I try to "remove" the site via the Web Server Configuration Tool interface, I receive the aforementioned error message.
