Dave, I'm pretty careful about what I install and I have yet to have a problem.... But I don't use computers my desktop for recreation :) It's terribly annoying - I'm sorry I just can't stand it... I suppose it's a weakness. I do KNOW why it's there though (but thanks for the reminder).
