Dave,

I'm pretty careful about what I install and I have yet to have a problem....
But I don't use computers my desktop for recreation :)  It's terribly
annoying - I'm sorry I just can't stand it...  I suppose it's a weakness. I
do KNOW why it's there though (but thanks for the reminder).

That's not Windows treating you like you're stupid - it's Windows
making sure that no processes run with administrator rights without
your explicit permission. I strongly recommend against people turning
this off, generally.
