I really hate being a bad guy. I try to be good, I try to be nice, but once
in a while someone does something to really upset me and I get the urge to
be bad. This 'something' that a person can do is usually something stupid.
Yes, I said stupid. People who act without thinking really upset me and that
leads to very bad things. What has been done this time to upset me? Vacation
notices being set for lists.
During the holidays, many people set vacation notices and mail messages were
bouncing all around because of it. I wrote a filter to stop most of them
from coming to the list but still a few get through. In addition to the
filter, I sent out message after message with the (Admin) header asking
people to unsubscribe from the lists when they go on vacation. You'd think
they'd listen.
The major problem other than having a TON of garbage posts about "being out
of the office" or "Gone fishing" is that the people most ready to complain
about them are the same people who set them. For this reason, I'm setting a
new policy for the lists. If someone goes on vacation and sets an
auto-responder that sends an email to ANY House of Fusion list, they will be
banned for the time of the vacation PLUS a week after.
I know this is an extreme measure, but maybe people will learn from it.
