Worse news. If I understand the fact correctly and remember current pricing,
if you are hosting company using 4.5 PRO, your costs just went up 300% if
you want to move to 5.0. No volume pricing in the world is going to make up
for a 300% price increase.
No matter how you slice it, hosting prices just went up when the price for
the server license really needed to go down.
If increasing the price of licenses for server hosting is really going to
improve the revenue stream, market share, and profitability for Macromedia,
the market price of MACR stock should take an up tick next week. So by the
middle of next week, we should see what the folks on Wall Street think about
this price increase. I am guessing that most hosting companies are going to
hate the idea.

The Server Hosting license is a 20% price increase for hosting. If you are
unlucky enough to host on a quad processor Compaq box, the cost for a
license just went up a whopping 140%. This is not what we needed.

There is now an official definition of the Cold Fusion 5.0 Hosting Service
Provider edition available at:
http://www.allaire.com/products/coldfusion/cf5hostingfaq.html. It was
posted on one of the other lists I'm on and I'm suprised it didn't make it
here.
I'm glad I waited to chime in... this is actually looking to me to read like
an improvement rather than a money grab. Anything to improve the
reliability "out of the box" for any of the hosting providers is a big plus.
I've dealt with two, one that didn't care beyond the collections department
and another that bent over backwards to help. In both instances the server
hit periods of problematic operation. Now I'm hoping this version will
stabilize things a bit.

Enjoy the weekend!

A/MM just posted to the list a nice rundown on what's happening. Close
enough for the weekend.
