car to share with us how far have you got ?

I can't do a whole lot. The emails are pouring into my account. I can look
at the headers. I've checked all the domains mentioned in the headers and
the body of the messages with Network Solutions whois. All of them have a
common administrator listed - one Ken Barnes, with an email listed as
[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Sending an email to that account bounces) Barnes's
phone number is listed in the Network Solutions register, so I phoned it.
I spoke to a person who said he was Ken Barnes and that he had those
domains. And that he couldn't understand what was happening but he would
get onto stopping the emails within the hour. That was 18 hours ago and
they're still coming in as fast as they always have. C-n-k.com also has
Ken Barnes listed as the administrator.

The domains are all hosted through fastdnsservers.com which is Shanje's
domain servers. I have written to Shiloh Jennings, who owns Shanje but
haven't had a response.

This account of mine is also hosted at Shanje. It's for a society I run the
web site for.

>Can anyone give me any hints?

you're being abused?

Thanks a lot for that .. I didn't realise. DOH!

>It's a plain commercial message - earn $15000 a month working at home doing

>figure out is why the spammer is sending me so many messages?

hes trying to convince you to take up his offer?

Interesting sales philosophy. If they aren't convinced after 10 times you
do the sales pitch, do another 950 and he'll turn round. Yeah right.

>Would he have somehow got hold of my mail server and is passing the
>messages through

If your mail server has its pants down around its ankles, expect the worst,
or, uh, der wurst.

Well all I can do is have an account and change my password frequently. But
changing the password makes no difference. They still come in.

>Any other reasons you can think of why he's sent me hundreds of identical
>spam messages?

you are a difficult customer? he loves ya so much?

I never saw or heard from him before. I'm certainly not any kind of customer
of his.

What are you running for mail-abuse defense?

I own the email account. I change my password. You can't relay through the
account or at least I tried that and tested and it bounced. So I don't see
what he's got to gain by sending me a gazillion emails.

Does your border router allow packet filtering? then block his Class
C. If hes spoofing his source address all over the park, this wont work.

Does your mail server have any string filtering or other defense? Its not
the best place to do filtering, esp against SMTP DoS like harvesting or
mailbombing (your case), but when its all ya got ...

I can't do any of that - I'm not the systems admin. If I was, I could just
shut his ip address out and/or bounce back 100 of every email he sends me.
But it's outside my control. I just have to keep emptying the mailbox all
the time so it doesn't fill up and start bouncing legitimate emails. It's
been 24 hours now and I'm getting really pissed off with it!

Check out my free IMGate in my sig if youd like to prevent/limit this and
other abuse in the future.

Perhaps you could write to Shiloh Jennings at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and suggest
it to him. I'll support you.

Cheers,
