I don't know how much this will vary between IE 5.5 on Win2K (what I'm using) and and IE 5.x on Win98. I've got a History folder within my temp directory. Within that folder, there's a special system folder (hidden from the command line) called History.IE5. When browsed through Windows Explorer, it shows a list of the history entries divided by day, for the last four days.
