This may not apply, but I've got a SQL Server 2000. For months I was able to connect fine from here at home when I had the IP Address of the SQL Server set up in the Client Network Utility, then all of a sudden I couldn't connect any more. Same thing, timeout trying to connect. I could connect through ODBC using the IP Address but not through Ent. Mgr. I tried everything I could think of. I hadn't made any changes to my firewall or anything else. For the heck of it, I put in the machine name (sql.tropicalwebcreations.net) in lieu of the IP Address in my Client Network Utility and haven't had any problems connecting since.
