Just to add my 2c... Another way undervalued free database is Interbase/Firebird. Developed and sold for bucketloads by Borland for years, it's now gone open source. It's fully client server, we use it on our own boxes. Interbase comes in a Borland certified version for a couple hundred bucks I think, or you can use the free non-certified version. Firebird is from the same code base, developed by an open source group I believe.
Check it out, I think it's a viable alternative for SQL Server, way better than either Access or MySQL. K. "Tyler M.
