Ask your coworker why He says it's slow? He probably only says that because that's what was written a few years ago. Yes, java is slower than C, C++, assembly, and any truely compiled language. But development time, ease of use, and "somewhat" portability makes it good. Besides, who cares if it's slow; java is where the jobs are at.
