Yeah, I think that's the big complaint, although I agree with your reasoning
and your choice. CF programmers like the convenience of being able to use
CFWDDX, rather than having to instantiate an XML parser and find and
manipulate the nodes themselves, or use a custom tag which does the same
thing.
