I'm going to the conference for many reasons. The ones that you might identify with
are:
1. To learn from others in the field about features of MX.
2. To know who's who and let them know me. Jobs come more from personal relationships
than from just sending out a resume.
3. To let people know I'm available for work
Anyone who needs to look for a reason to go can just think of those three and the
reason should be obvious. Your going to learn there. There's no ifs, ands or buts.
You'll be listening to top people in the field talk to you on a personal level about
the technology that you will need to know in the near future. This saves some of the
cost of classes, books and the sort.
If your there, your seen. Others know who you are. For example, there was one
conference a few years back where someone mentioned that he did adult sites in CF with
great security. Just that mention and a little talking about it led people to contact
him for sites. Was it worth it to be there in that respect? definitely.
Personally, if I don't have a new position by the time I go to the conference, I'll be
letting people know I'm available and the chance of me walking away with a job is
rather high. Why? Besides who I am, it'll be because they've met me, know me to some
degree and can talk to me in a non-business setting.
I expect a number of jobs to come from the conference.
