Well...first culprit to check is the version of MDAC (Microsoft Data Access 
Components) on the
server.  There ahve been so many released, I don't know which you should have, but 
make sure it's
the latest (check M$).  This CPU spiking was a reulst of a MDAC bug in a version back 
around CF4 I
think and was temporarily re-introduced around version CF 4.5.  What would happen is 
some queries
(even simple SELECTS on a little data) would spike the CPU and a restart would be 
needed to recover.
