It seems comparable to other conferences: https://register.ftpconferences.com/reg_or.asp This kind of thing boils down to simple economics. Macromedia is a for-profit entity, in theory. They have to be able to support the cost of the conference, at a bare minimum. I'm sure they'd like it to actually be profitable.
